STARNET Family Conference - In the morning session, Family Matters will be presenting on IEPs and will be able to answer questions many parents have regarding evaluations, placement and their children's rights in the special education system.  In the afternoon session, the Illinois Technology Assistive Program (ITAP) from Springfield, IL, will be demonstrating a variety of devices used for children who are visually impaired, have autism or a speech delay.  This will be a hands-on session for parents to actually try the devices out and learn about how you can borrow them from ITAP for fee!

6th Annual Family Conference - Resources and Inspiration for ADULT Family Members and Caregivers of Children with Disabilities.  The conference will feature Paula Kluth, who is a consultant, teacher, author, advocate and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners.  Her interactive all day presentation "Do You See Inclusion as a Place or a Process?  And 6 Other Questions to Ask Your Child's School" will explore the philosophy of inclusion and how instruction can be designed for all learners.

Pacer has developed two new videos that parents can access on PACER's web site at PACER.org.  "Special Education:  What Do I Need to Know?" is a 37-minute audio/video overview of special education created to help parents of children with disabilities understand what special education is, how a child might begin in special education, how to resolve disagreements, and what role parents play.  The presentation, also translated into Hmong, is funded in part by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education.  A new 30-minute video called "Transition Planning for Children with Disabilities" gives a brief overview of the transition planning process for parents and families of children with disabilities.  Find both of the new presentations at:
