February 2012 – ADHD

Does your child’s inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity cause problems at school?  If your child has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the characteristic behaviors adversely affect educational performance, your school is obligated to investigate the need for supports under Section 504 or services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

To learn how ADHD is identified and treated, read this article:
Identification and Treatment of ADHD

Ideas on teaching strategies and educational accommodations for students with ADHD can be found in this article:
Educational Strategies for ADHD

To decide whether educational services should be provided through a Section 504 Plan or through an IEP, read this information from Matthew Cohen, attorney.
