Description Lower SES has significant impacts on children and families. It is one element of diversity that does not get much attention. As its influences show up in the relationships and behaviors in homes, schools, and centers, it is incumbent on families and professionals to be able to identify them as well as deal with the subsequent challenges. This challenge is two-fold if not more. Professionals have to be able to explore their early personal experiences with poverty, the impact on them, and then translate that to their strengths and reluctances in working with families with lower SES. Finally, it is helpful if we all learn how to thrive over the damages that poverty can exert.
